PRP (platelets rich plasma) is blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets. As a concentrated source of autologous platelets, PRP contains (and releases through degranulation) several different growth factors and other cytokines that stimulate healing of bone and soft tissue.
PRP is plasma with many more platelets than what is typically found in the blood. The concentration of platelets — and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors is 4 to 5 times greater (or richer) than usual.
To develop a PRP preparation, blood must first be drawn from a patient. The platelets are separated from other blood cells and their concentration is increased during a process called centrifugation.
Platelet rich plasma serum consists of high concentration of platelets in a small volume of plasma (one million platelets in plasma 1cm3). Along to platelets there are seven major growth factors (GF) and a large number of stem cells (stem cells – CD 34) present in blood plasma.
Then the increased concentration of platelets is combined with the remaining blood. This method of blood platelets includes rich growth factors, which have a powerful effect in the rejuvenation, regeneration and revitalization of the skin.
Since 2007 PRP is used worldwide for face rejuvenation.
This treatment is ideal for people who want a gradual but noticeable improvement in skin texture, tone and color with minimal recovery time.
Growth factors (PDGF platelet-derived growth factor) stimulates the proliferation of fibroblasts and keratinocytes that produce collagen and keratin. PDGF plays an important role in blood vessel formation, cell division of fibroblasts, synthesis of collagen and extracellular matrix, whose main ingredient is hyaluronic acid.
The goal of this treatment is to stimulate the natural mechanism of skin rejuvenation and regeneration which leads to production of new collagen and boost metabolism in treated area thus making skin firmer, tighter, fresher and brighter. Wrinkles become less visible and skin texture improves. With PRP we can treat simultaneously face, neck, throat and hands. This method also gives remarkable results in treatment of stretch marks and stimulation of hair growth.
The basis of the method is to use patients own skin repair mechanisms so that the process is completely natural and safe. There is no risk of infection, allergic reaction or any other adverse effects. The treatment may be done throughout the year, even in summer. Results can be seen after just one week and the final result is evaluated after two months.
Indications for PRP are:
- skin rejuvenation on face, neck, chest and hands,
- correction of fine lines and wrinkles,
- treatment of stretch marks,
- stimulation of hair growth.
For best results it’s necessary to do at least 3 treatments in interval of 3 months, after which it is recommended repeat the treatment 2 times a year.
